Vaccinations and Immunizations

Vaccinations are an essential part of protecting your child against preventable diseases. Ensuring they are received consistently and on the proper schedule is a fundamental aspect of the care provided at Paragon Pediatrics. Thanks to the nature of our services, you never have to worry about missing a vaccination date. Your provider will work with you to schedule these visits in advance, allowing you to guarantee that your child remains protected against preventable diseases.

Ensuring Your Child’s Health With Vaccinations

While your child was in your womb, they were protected from disease by your body’s immune system. Some of these antibodies carry over after birth to provide some degree of protection in the days that follow. Breastfeeding mothers will continue to provide these antibodies for as long as they feed them breastmilk. However, these defenses will wane once the child has been weaned off the breast. Vaccinations provide a permanent boost to your child’s immune system.

When a child is vaccinated, they’re provided with a dead or weakened sample of the disease for their body to “practice” on. This introduction allows the body to easily fight off the disease without experiencing any related symptoms of the illness. If your child encounters the disease in the future, their body will be prepared to fight it off handily. Vaccines are so effective that a growing number of diseases have gone decades without a case. Keeping current with your vaccinations ensures that these diseases will remain a thing of the past.

Paragon Pediatrics follows the guidelines for vaccination set forth by the American Academy of Pediatrics. These guidelines present a set of best practices regarding the delivery of vaccines. The vaccines recommended by the AAP include:

  • Chickenpox (varicella) vaccine
  • Diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis vaccine (DTaP)
  • Hepatitis A vaccine (HepA)
  • Haemophilus influenza type b (Hib) vaccine
  • Hepatitis B vaccine (HepB)
  • Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine
  • Influenza vaccine
  • Measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine (MMR)
  • Meningococcal vaccines (MenACWY, MenB)
  • Pneumococcal vaccines (PCV13, PPSV23)
  • Polio vaccine (IPV)
  • Rotavirus vaccine (RV)
  • COVID-19 vaccine

Some of these vaccinations require ‘booster shots’ at various points throughout childhood to reach their full effectiveness. It is common for your child to receive multiple vaccinations during an immunization appointment. Your child is exposed to numerous diseases during a normal day. Multiple vaccines pose no additional threat to their health.

Vaccination Is Essential In Starting A Long Healthy Life

You can do few things to protect your child from illness that are more important than consistent vaccinations. Since introducing these immunization treatments, the mortality rate in children and infants has plummeted. These treatments ensure your child is safe from deadly, life-changing, preventable diseases.
